Tarpon Springs, FL
Tarpon Springs is rich in history and has a close-knit, small town feel. It is famous for its Sponge Docks. Early in the 1900s, immigrants from Greece made Tarpon Springs their home and created a thriving natural Sponge industry. With a naturally protected cove, Divers docked their Sponge boats in Tarpon Springs harbor and dove in the nearby waters of the Gulf for natural sponges, coveted for their soft, absorbant nature and used widely in the health and wellness industry. The town has many historic homes, many of which were built between 1880 and 1950, and has a quaint downtown full of shops and restaurants. Tarpon also has excellent schools.
