Known for craftsman-style bungalows, eclectic shops, gourmet restaurants, a unique bar & brewery scene and a modern, boho appeal, it’s easy to see why Seminole Heights is one of the best neighborhoods in the Tampa area. A blend of suburban affordability and downtown amenities, Seminole Heights is a great choice for younger families & professionals.
It’s one of our favorite areas of Tampa Bay. Here’s Team Heffernan’s Seminole Heights, Tampa neighborhood guide.
About Seminole Heights
If you like a place with plenty of classic character, Seminole Heights may be the place for you. It’s known for its historic background. The area contains two designated historical districts Seminole Heights (local and national designation) and Hampton Terrace (national designation).
Nearby you’ll find buildings in the neighborhood that date back to the early 1900s, including the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Seminole Heights Methodist Church, Seminole Heights Elementary School, and Hillsborough High School. You’ll also find Garden Center, a neighborhood park, which is used for community events like art festivals and picnics. Seminole Heights has a long stretch of Riverfront parkland and there are several areas to access Tampa’s Hillsborough River.
Close to the revitalized Armature Works, this historic area is popular due to the timeless bungalows. If you’re looking for a traditional 3/2 type home with good-sized yards, consider buying in Seminole Heights, Tampa. Here, you’ll be close to downtown, but this West Tampa neighborhood alternative to South Tampa is great for younger families and investors looking for a good value.
Why Buy in Seminole Heights
A blend of suburban affordability and downtown amenities, Seminole Heights is one of the best places to live in Tampa. The area’s charm comes from bungalow-style homes, unique restaurants, and an eclectic art scene.
Recently, Seminole Heights, Tampa has been booming with new businesses, gourmet dining, and nightlife. Some areas are considered up and coming but crime has steadily decreased thanks in part to the city’s renovation efforts and construction of amenities like Armature Works.
Seminole Heights offers residents a dense suburban feel. Instead of moving to master-planned communities and HOAs that often feel cookie-cutter, the area gives plenty of character. The smaller craftsman homes tend to have good bones if you’d like to renovate the house to become your dream home. This area has younger families moving in (a good sign for the future of the neighborhood). It’s also highly popular with young professionals who want to be close to all the action.
Tampa’s real estate market is incredible. The Seminole Heights area offers attractive housing prices that are suitable for both young families and those downsizing/retiring. Price points have been on the rise as the neighborhood increases in popularity, but the home prices aren’t as high as you’d find in South Tampa or Hyde Park.
What It’s Like To Live In The Seminole Heights
Seminole Heights has a lot to offer! New places to go and new friends to meet, you’ll be blown away by all you can experience.
Feel like a part of the community! The ongoing neighborhood tradition in Seminole Heights is the “porch party.” Some are sponsored by organizations and others by residents. There are also two annual home tours. Old Seminole Heights Home tour in April and the Southeast Seminole Heights holiday home tour in December. One of the area’s most famed buildings is a Victorian house with a wraparound porch that is now home to Front Porch Bar & Grill, a casual dining spot.
Plan to go to the Second Sunday Morning Market which brings local vendors to Hillsborough High School. You can bring your dog and it’s a fun shopping day for your whole family. There are many eclectic boutique stores and coffee shops to visit. And for a fun night after work, drive over to one of Seminole Heights cool craft beer breweries. Want to have some unique fun? Head on over to Shuffle for a game of shuffleboard and some bites. Shuffleboard just feels very Seminole Heights to us…
